1. How do I become a resource parent?

3. How long is the process?
The process of becoming a resource parent with Mia's Homes FFA will take 3 to 4 months depending on clearance and documentation process with all State and County Agencies.
4. How do children come into the Foster Care System?
Child Protective Services from local Department of Children & Family Services (DCF) investigate reports of suspected child abuse and neglect. Law enforcement officers are responsible for assisting DCFS workers in removing children who are in imminent danger. DCFS then makes the decision where to place a child and the Juvenile Court decides when a child may be reunified with their families. It is the goal of foster care to support family reunification.

6. Medical
Medi-Cal is provided for all foster children. This is used for medical, dental, and psychological appointments.

2. What are the certification requirements?
- Must provide a current California Driver's License/ID.
- Must be over 21 years of age.
- All adults living in the home of 18 years or older must undergo a criminal record clearance.
- All adults must submit to a current physical examination including a TB test.
- Must maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
- Must have an insured vehicle available 24hrs a day.
- DMV print-out must be submitted by applicants.
- All training as designated by Mia's Homes Foster Family Agency must be completed along with a home inspection and home study.
- Must have a substitute (babysitter/caregiver) of at least 18 years of age who must also undergo a criminal record clearance, a health screen/TB, and CPR/First Aid.
- Must agree to discipline without using physical or corporal punishment.

- Provide nurturing and guidance in a safe and loving environment.
- Meet the developmental needs of the child.
- Provide healthy meals.
- Ensure that a child's medical, dental, and psychological needs are met.
- Assist with the child's treatment plan.
- Work in partnership with a professional team of social workers and agency staff to protect and strengthen families.
